05/18/2005: "How to know you're a consultant"
I had to wait to stop laughing before I could pass this on, a quip from Reg Braithwaite-Lee, who is a regular contributor in the Agile/Toronto scene. This comes from a discussion of how to introduce Pair Programming, that most controversial of practices, into a group. Some say you should encourage, some say you should let the team decide, but many good coaches related their success with good, old-fashioned "You got no choice." Reg wrote:
If a member of the team wants to pick and choose her practices, if she is resistant to trying anything new or different, if she wants to do things "the way they've always worked for her,"... maybe she should consider a career in consulting?
I can't argue. That's one reason I fancy myself a consutant and why I'm so picky out my projects.
